Day 2: Mastering 3D Modeling for Interactive Lessons

Updated: Dec 10, 2024

The second day of our Digital Education of the Future training picked up right where Day 1 left off, diving deeper into the practical aspects of creating digital educational content. Participants were eager to build on their newfound knowledge of 360° visualizations and begin exploring more advanced techniques in 3D modeling.

Morning Session: Basics of 3D Modeling

The day began with a focused session on the fundamentals of 3D modeling. Trainers introduced participants to user-friendly 3D modeling software, ensuring that even those with little technical experience felt confident navigating the tools. Key topics included:

  • Understanding 3D Modeling Interfaces: Navigating menus, tools, and workspaces efficiently.

  • Creating Basic Shapes and Structures: Practicing with simple geometric forms to get a feel for the software.

  • Applications in Education: Discussing how 3D models can be used to visualize concepts in history, science, and other subjects.

Participants worked through guided exercises to create basic 3D models, such as historical artifacts or simplified architectural elements, tailored to their educational focus areas.

Afternoon Session: Adding Interactivity to Models

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to enhancing these 3D models with interactive features. The session covered:

  • Annotations and Hotspots: Embedding information within models to create rich, educational experiences.

  • Incorporating Multimedia Elements: Adding videos, images, and text overlays to provide context and depth.

  • Exporting Models for Integration: Preparing models for use in interactive lessons and ensuring compatibility with various platforms.

Hands-on practice allowed participants to experiment with embedding information and refining their models. By the end of the session, they had created interactive elements that brought their 3D models to life, making them more engaging for learners.

Evening Reflection: Overcoming Challenges

As the day wound down, participants gathered for a reflection session. Many shared their experiences with the tools, discussing both successes and challenges. Trainers provided troubleshooting tips and encouragement, reinforcing the importance of practice and exploration in mastering these skills.

Building Momentum

Day 2 was all about progression. From basic modeling techniques to creating interactive educational content, participants left with a stronger grasp of how to use 3D technology to captivate learners. The excitement in the room was palpable as everyone looked forward to applying these skills in lesson planning.

Next up: Day 3 – Integrating 360° Media and 3D Models into Comprehensive Lessons. Stay tuned for more updates!
